Alina Șerban

Alina Șerban did not just break through the European film scene—she kicked the door off its hinges. Growing up in Bucharest, she fought tooth and nail against prejudice and poverty to become the first in her family to finish high school, let alone head to drama school in London. She turned her life into raw, fierce art on stage, then took the cinema world by storm.

Her breakout turn as an undefeated mother in the boxing drama *Gipsy Queen* won her huge critical love and major awards across Europe. She writes, directs, and acts on her own terms. Let's be honest, whenever she steps onto a red carpet or drops a new script, everyone stops to pay attention.
