Dan Levy was born in Toronto, Ontario, to actor Eugene Levy and Deborah Divine. He began his media career in the mid-2000s as a television host for MTV Canada, gaining public recognition as a co-host of MTV Live and The After Show. During this time, he also developed an interest in screenwriting and production.

Levy achieved widespread international acclaim after co-creating the critically acclaimed comedy series Schitt's Creek with his father. Following the show's historic sweep at the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards, Levy expanded his career into directing and producing feature films, including his 2023 directorial debut Good Grief, while maintaining active development deals in television.
