Few people can hit a snare drum like a sledgehammer and still belt out Steve Perry ballads note-for-note. Deen Castronovo is that rare beast. He spent decades keeping time for stadium royalty Journey, winning over die-hard fans who could not believe the guy behind the kit had pipes like that. Before that, he paid his dues backing hard-rock royalty like Ozzy Osbourne and supergroup Bad English.

His run hit a brick wall in 2015 after a messy legal storm and drug relapse got him booted from Journey. But rock and roll loves a redemption arc. Deen cleaned up his act, put in the work, and Neal Schon welcomed him right back to his drum throne in 2021.
