Fred Hechinger is an American actor born and raised in New York City. He began acting in youth theater before making his feature film debut in Bo Burnham's acclaimed 2018 coming-of-age drama Eighth Grade. He quickly established a presence in independent films and major streaming projects, appearing in films such as News of the World and the Fear Street trilogy.

He achieved wider recognition in 2021 for his role as Quinn Mossbacher in the first season of the HBO anthology series The White Lotus. Hechinger has since expanded his career into prominent film roles, starring in the 2024 action-comedy Thelma, Ridley Scott's historical epic Gladiator II, and the superhero film Kraven the Hunter.
