Gordon Ramsay was born in Johnstone, Scotland, and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. After early aspirations in professional football were cut short by a knee injury, he enrolled in hotel management and trained under prominent chefs in London and Paris, including Marco Pierre White, Albert Roux, and Guy Savoy. In 1998, he opened his flagship venue, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, London, which earned three Michelin stars in 2001.

He transitioned to international stardom in the 2000s, fronting popular culinary television shows such as Kitchen Nightmares, Hell's Kitchen, and MasterChef in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Ramsay continues to oversee a global portfolio of fine dining and casual restaurants while producing television and digital content.
