Talk about a Hollywood comeback. James Gunn went from writing ultra-cheap schlock for Troma Entertainment to running the entire DC universe for Warner Bros. That's not just a lucky streak. He took a gang of Marvel oddballs nobody cared about and turned Guardians of the Galaxy into pure box-office gold. He writes fast, loves weird outsider characters, and pairs huge comic-book explosions with vintage pop tracks you can't get out of your head.

Then came the wobble. Disney dropped him flat in 2018 when old, edgy jokes resurfaced online. Most careers would end right there. Not Gunn's. His cast stood by him, Warner Bros. snapped him up for The Suicide Squad, and Disney quietly brought him back to finish his Marvel trilogy. Now he holds the keys to Superman and Batman. Love him or hate him, the man knows how to survive.
