John Malkovich was born in Christopher, Illinois, and raised in Benton. In 1976, he became a founding member of Chicago's renowned Steppenwolf Theatre Company alongside Gary Sinise and Terry Kinney. After making a major impression in stage productions including 'True West' and 'Death of a Salesman', he transitioned to screen acting, earning an Academy Award nomination for his feature film debut in 'Places in the Heart' (1984).
Over the subsequent decades, Malkovich built a celebrated career portraying idiosyncratic, complex, and villainous characters in films such as 'Dangerous Liaisons', 'In the Line of Fire', and 'Being John Malkovich'. In addition to prominent film and television roles, he continues to direct theatre and operate his own fashion label.
