Sam Raimi was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, and began making Super 8 movies as a teenager alongside longtime collaborator Bruce Campbell. He achieved breakthrough success after writing and directing the independent supernatural horror film The Evil Dead (1981). The cult hit spawned a celebrated franchise, established Raimi's signature kinetic camera style, and paved the way for diverse projects including Darkman and the critically acclaimed neo-noir thriller A Simple Plan.
In the 2000s, Raimi directed the blockbuster Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), which set modern box office records and helped redefine the superhero genre. He later returned to his horror roots with Drag Me to Hell before directing Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), while also producing numerous film and television projects through his production companies.
